The last thing you want as a Christian is to fail to put God above all else. The busyness of life may lead us to stray from our priority to put God first, which is detrimental to our spiritual well-being. We have a tendency to loiter sometimes, losing sight of what really matters.
The world is so wicked that all around us can be tempting and distracting, diverting us from God’s purpose.
It’s tempting to become enthralled by the yearning for earthly possessions such as fame, success and worldly desires, yet these things are feeting and are incapable of providing us with true happiness.
True and lasting joy comes from God alone, as stated in Psalm 16:11, “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence, there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” When we “take delight in the Lord and he will give us the desires of our hearts,” only then can we find true peace and fulfillment.
Ask Yourself First
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:33
When putting God first, everything should come second. So, try asking yourself, “What do I really want?” Then, try figuring out the things that you want to do and want to have. When you figure them all out, ask yourself again, “Are these what I NEED?” Now, turn to these questions, “Are those anything pleasing to God?” or “Are those efforts geared towards eternal happiness?”
If yes, way to go! If you’re doing otherwise, you might want to consider changing your priorities to seek a far more everlasting reward.
There’s A Reward Waiting For You
In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus says, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
We should instead place greater value on rewards that will last eternally than those that are only momentary. Because of the promise that we shall ultimately be rewarded, we are encouraged to keep our faith and carry out good deeds that bring honour to God in all we do.
Put Him above your actions, decisions, finances, wisdom, and all others so you won’t be subdued by earthly recognitions that will remain fleeting forever.
What Reward?
Now here’s the most significant truth.
YOU WILL BE SAVED!

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16
Yes, you read that right – everlasting life.
This verse is referred to as “The Gospel in A Nutshell” as it encapsulates the core Christian message of salvation through Jesus Christ in just a matter of seconds.
We are promised a new life in Jesus, one that is free from sin and death, when we receive Him as our Lord and Savior. So we follow Him and put everything He desires before all else here on earth, live a life of plenty and purpose, and one day end up in eternity with Him in Heaven.
You do not want to waste all your time and energy here on earth doing things without eternal value; instead, do things according to God’s will and receive eternal salvation.
The pursuit of a greater purpose is far nobler than anything else. God is a great keeper of His Word and faithful to His promise.
The Lord knows that our actions are a reflection of our values. Thus, “we should not love the world, nor be conformed to its ways” and we should “set our minds on things above, not on earthly things” as “anyone who wants to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”
Hence the question, “Are you living in God’s Words?” or “Are you giving in to the world?”
